Cameron has officially perfected the "inch worm." He can pretty much make his way across the room inching along...It's by no means a crawl, but if it gets the boy to what he wants we'll take it! I am working on getting a video of him in action to post . This child has yet to meet a coffee table he didn't like, that, and Miller's paw is often quite enticing.
In other exciting news Cameron has a new baby girl cousin - Maureen Katherine Conway was born this morning via emergency C-Section. She's doing well, and so are Aunt Jessica and Uncle William. Congratulations!!!
I've enrolled Cameron in a music class that he seems to enjoy, I know many of you are wondering where his musical talents lie - the drums? the piano? singing perhaps after his mother, the show choir queen? Well the answer my friends is... the marrachas! Cameron can shake the little mini egg like marrachas with the best of them. With any luck by the time Cameron hits his teen years American Idol will have room for a Mariachi band...
Cameron is still teething, but there are no actual teeth, he has also come down with a case of the sniffles. We are off to the pediatrician tomorrow for what I am hopeful may be our last dose of Synagis. We went for a weight check last week and he is 17lbs 4oz!!! yeah, the Dr was so excited she screamed, which in turn made Cameron cry. We also met with the nutrionist and he is doing fairly well, could use about 50-100 more calories per day. We were very pleased with the news of the weight gain, we'll see where the numbers fall tomorrow.
My hopes for a Children's free March may have been dashed, after some lengthy discussions with his therapists and a consult with the head of the Neurosurgery dept at Children's (this is something one of the PTs at Children did, not me) there is some thought that Cameron MIGHT have a tethered spinal cord. The only way to know for sure is to do an MRI, which we had planned for late May. In light of this new potential issue it looks like we are going to get the MRI sooner, I am suspecting this month. I've been emailing back and forth with Dr. Alden (nuerosurgeon) and he does not suspect a tethered cord, or shunt malfunction are causing the fluctuating tone issues we are seeing in Cameron's legs, but he has yet to say what he believes might be the cause. I understand that it could be a result of the Dandy Walker Variant, but we are trying to rule out anything that would lead to a different course of treatment beyond therapy . So we'll see where this takes us. Should it turn out to be a tethered cord, surgery will be necessary to repair this, but I won't get into details seeing as we don't even know if this is what we are dealing with.
I often feel torn, Cameron looks really good and is making great progress - everyone agrees, but then issues will pop up here and there and I wonder are we being too cautious? And by we I mean the therapy team and us, my guess is no we aren't being overly cautious, but it's a fine line. I have a feeling that Dr. Alden thinks we are nuts, but if he can't help me understand what might be causing these issues then I have to go with my gut and rule out what I can....
